Pears -Le Moyne de Morgues, Jacques
Pears -Le Moyne de Morgues, Jacques
from $23.00
This recreation of watercolor and gouache piece "Pear" invokes naturalistic colors and lighting. Created by Jacques Le Moyne c. 1580 as part of a series commissioned by a wealthy English patron, "Pear" has a duplicate version, also called "Pear", stored in the Victoria and Albert Museum. Le Moyne illustrates "Pear" primarily from life, paying close attention to light and dark. Unlike many of the others in this collection, Pear rests on a physical surface, as evidenced by Le Moyne's inclusion of shadow under the bottom pear slice. Despite its apparent spatial plane, "Pear" contains merely a blank vellum background, adhering to botanical painting standards of the sixteenth century. "Pear"'s vivid red hues, dappled light, and intense shadow mimic Le Moyne's mastery of color.
